CARTER SCORES TWO GOALS AND EXETER WIN.
SATURDAY SEPTEMBER 15th
EXETER CITY 2 YORK CITY 1.
There was something for supporters of Exeter City to cheer about at last, the Grecians' first win of the season. At St James's Park this afternoon the City beat York 2-1, and it was a well-deserved win. Both the City's goals were got by Ray Carter.
Exeter City:- Tinsley; Smyth and MacDonald; Hughes, Anderson, and Sanders; Welsh, Mitchell, Green, Carter, and Jenkins.
York City: Moor; Bingley and Heron; Woods, Jackson, and Fountain; Hoggart, Wragg, Stainsby, Wilkinson, and Gould.
Referee:- Mr R.E.Smith of Newport. Linesmen:- Messrs R.J.Edwards and D.A.Saunders.
The City were good value for this, their first win of the season for they hardly let York get into the game, and a lot of the credit for this must go to three players, Anderson, Sanders, and Smyth. The attack seems to have clicked at last, and the two goals will it is hoped give the players the confidence they needed.
RESERVES FAIL AT BRISTOL.
Neither Bristol City Reserves or Exeter City Reserves were dangerous in the opening stages of today's game at Ashton Gate, Bristol. Pyle then cleared from a shot by Pierce and Quarrington from a free kick badly placed by Williams.
Bristol City Reserves:- Teague; Ford and Smith; Pratt, Pyle, and Williams; Savino, Lythgoe, Bush, Meyer, and White.
Exeter City Reserves:- Clark; Quarrington and Davis; Brown, Grace, and Rutley; McMillan, Rees, McGinn, Sells, and Pierce.
Bristol had more of the play as the game wore on and Clark had to save from White and Lythgoe. Two goals by Meyer and one by Bush to one for Exeter by McMillan gave Bristol a 3-1 lead at the interval, and the final score was:-
Bristol City Res 4 Exeter City Res 2.
