CITY GO DOWN IN BOTTOM-OF-TABLE CLASH.
SATURDAY SEPTEMBER 22ND:
CHESTER 3 EXETER CITY 1.
Chester took the lead in the 31st minute of the match between the two teams at the bottom of the Fourth Division ladder. They added two more in the second half and it was right at the end that the City got a consolation goal through Eric Welsh.
Chester: Johnson; J.Molyneux and Fleming; Wilson, Butler, and Corbishley;
G.Molyneux, Davies, Fitzgerald, Clarke, and Gregson.
Exeter City: Tinsley; Smyth and MacDonald; Rutley, Anderson, and Sanders; Welsh, Jenkins, Pierce, Carter, and Sells.
Referee:- Mr A.J.Sturgeon of London.
Exeter were the first to make progress, but a free kick, taken by MacDonald, produced no result. Chester improved, and Fitzgerald was robbed by Anderson as he tried to make ground through the middle. Exeter did a lot of attacking in the second half and gained several corners but it was Chester that got the goals.

Neither of Weymouth's two old Exeter City players were in their team at St James's Park today, Peter Thomas having been promoted to the Southern League side and George Hunter dropped.
Exeter City Reserves:- Clark; Quarrington and Davis; Grace, Parsons, and Gillard; McMeechan, Dodds, Riding, Brown, and Reed.
Weymouth:- Gourlay; Holder and Gulliver; Hall, Ashall, and Wright; Court, Cribb, Tizard, Forest, and Hanger.
After a shot by Cribb had gone wide Forest made no mistake in the twentieth minute, scoring from close in following a free kick. Two goals by Tizard gave the visitors a handsome lead by half-time. There was little improvement by Exeter in the second half, although Dodds did manage to get a goal.
