EXETER CITY'S GREAT TRIUMPH AT OLDHAM.

FIRST AWAY WIN AGAINST PREVIOUSLY UNBEATEN SIDE.

SATURDAY OCTOBER 6TH:
OLDHAM 1 EXETER CITY 2.

A penalty, successfully taken by Jenkins, gave Exeter City a shock lead in the first half of the bottom-of-table v top-of-table clash at Boundary Park, Oldham, this afternoon. Oldham, watched by a crowd of more than 16,000, drew level with a goal by Lister in the 56th minute, but fourteen minutes later the City's lead was regained, and the Grecians returned to Devon with both points in their locker.
It was Oldham's only defeat so far this season and the City's first win on opponents' soil.

Oldham Athletic:- Bollands; Branagan and Marshall; McCall, Williams, and Jarvis; Ledger, Johnstone, Lister, Frizzell, and Colquhoun.

Exeter City:- Tinsley; Smyth and MacDonald; Hughes, Anderson, and Sanders; Rees, Pierce, Mitchell, Carter, and Jenkins.

Referee:- Mr M.Fussey, of Retford.

This was Exeter's lucky day, but they earned in fighting spirit what they lacked in skill. Exeter's penalty after 13 minutes was given when Marshall unfairly brought down Rees, and Jenkins put the ball safely in the net with a left-foot shot which beat the goalkeeper. And the goal 20 minutes from time that toppled Oldham was volleyed home by Carter from some few yards outside the penalty area.
