Match 17
13th October 1962
Barrow (h)

And in the Western League
Bath City (a)

EXETER CITY BOTTOM OF THE LEAGUE AGAIN. SATURDAY OCTOBER 13th
EXETER CITY 0 BARROW 2.

After a dull and fairly uneventful first half Exeter's visitors from Barrow scored twice in the second to give them an unexpected win. It was their first away victory of the season.

Exeter City:- Boag; Smyth and MacDonald; Hughes, Anderson, and Sanders; Rees, Mitchell, Green, Pierce, and Jenkins.

Barrow:- Caine; Arrowsmith and Cahill;
Eddy, Robinson, and Hale; Wright, Darwin, Howard, Dixon, and Armstrong.

Referee:- Mr C.A.R.Woan of London.

Again the City attack was badly shown up in this game. Against the Barrow defence, which has conceded more goals than most clubs in the division, they still rarely looked dangerous. Smyth, Anderson, Hughes, and Sanders were the best defenders. And though the City did show some commendable fight when they were two goals behind they had thrown away their chances before then. This defeat has landed the City back at the bottom of the League table.

BATH CITY 3
EXETER CITY RESERVES 1
AT BATH.

Exeter made the early running but Cope when clear through directed his shot straight at the goalkeeper. By half-time neither side had managed a goal.

Bath City:- Gill; Smale and Whitnall; Watkins, Durrant, and Taverner;Hormon, Jacobs, Owens, Skinner, and Skuse

City Reserves:- Clark; Johnston and Davis; Quarrington, Parsons, and Grace;
McMillan, Sells, Cope, Riding, and Wills.

After the interval the game became rough and the referee took the names of Johnston and Sells. Owens scored for Bath and Riding for Exeter, following which Bath obtained further goals through Jacobs and Hormon. Johnston, the Exeter Reserves skipper, was after a second warning ordered off ten minutes from time for a foul on Skuse.
