EXETER CITY GIVE AWAY TWO PENALTIES AND LOSE AT NEWPORT.

SATURDAY NOVEMBER 17th

NEWPORT COUNTY 4 EXETER CITY 0.

Newport County took the lead over Exeter City when a penalty against Smyth for hand-ball was converted by Bonson in the 31st minute. Five minutes later a second penalty was given, this time against Sanders for the same offence, and again Bonson made no mistake with the kick. Thus at the interval the City were two goals in arrears, both being the results of penalties and both for hand-ball.

Exeter introduced their new player, John Henderson, who was signed on Tuesday from Charlton Athletic. Henderson is an inside-forward, who was born at Johnshaven, Scotland, 21 years ago, and joined Charlton Athletic from Montrose in June 1959. He was at inside-right today.

Newport County: - Weare; Bird and Thomas; Williams, Rathbone, and Rowland; Hudson, Herrity, Bonson, Hunt, Smith.

Exeter City:- Tinsley; Smyth and MacDonald; Mitchell, Anderson, and Sanders; Welsh, Henderson, Pierce, Carter, and Rees.

Referee:- Mr J.K. Taylor of Wolverhampton.

Exeter were rarely in the game and little was seen of their newest signing, Henderson. After an hour's play Newport's lead was further increased by Hunt, who beat Tinsley from close range to register his twentieth goal in League football this season, and then Bonson, the scorer of the penalties, claimed his third goal when he headed a centre from Hudson into the City net.

Jim Dailey, the City's centre-forward of ten years ago, turned out

on the left wing for Poole at St James's Park and scored his side's third goal following a miskick by Quarrington. Poole's first goal was obtained by Hole in ten minutes, and their second by Morrison in fifteen. Starting the second half three goals in arrears the City improved to some extent and Sells scored for them ten minutes from the end.
