Match 23
24th November 1962
Friendly
Exeter City v Devon County X1

KEITH HARVEY AT CENTRE HALF IN PARK FRIENDLY.

SATURDAY NOVEMBER 24th
EXETER CITY 4  DEVON COUNTY 2.

At centre half for the City today was Keith Harvey, making his first appearance since breaking his right leg in the practice match, last August. The new signing from Charlton, John Henderson, made his home debut, at inside left, and two trialists, Britton, of Bristol, and Hurrell, of Newton Abbot, were the right wing pair. Today's game was a "friendly" at St James's Park between Exeter City and a selected all-amateur Devon County side.

The teams were:-
EXETER CITY:- Boag Quarrington Davis Grace Harvey Rutley Britton Hurrell Green Henderson Jenkins

DEVON COUNTY:-
Salisbury (Royal Navy)
Hunt (Royal Marines)
Bennett (Woodlands)
Drew (Bideford)
Bird (Devon Regiment)
Tinney (Plymouth United)
Morgan (Newton Abbot)
Green (Plymouth United)
Vanstone (Sidmouth Town)
Jordan (Plymstock)
Leach (St. Luke's College)

Devon moved quite smoothly in the first few minutes, but they were only effective as far as the penalty area. After seven minutes Jenkins moved into the middle, pulled down a lob from Rutley, and calmly stroked the ball past Salisbury to give Exeter the lead. Within 20 minutes of the start of the second half Green had netted two goals for the City, but the County side then hit back with goals by Vanstone and Tinney, the latter from a penalty. The scoring was rounded off with a nice goal by Britton, one of the trial men. Five minutes from time Johnny Boag was hurt in a collision with Vanstone and was helped off the field. Grace went into goal.
