TORQUAY DOUBLE THE CITY ON WINDSWEPT PLAINMOOR.

SATURDAY DECEMBER 15th
TORQUAY 3 EXETER CITY 0.

Exeter City had almost a gale of wind behind them in the first half of the "Devon Derby" at Plainmoor, but when the interval whistle was blown they had failed to turn the advantage into goals.

The second half was only a few minutes old when Torquay United, who badly needed both points to keep up in the promotion race, went into the lead. They got two more goals to win by the same margin by which they beat the City on the opening day of the season at Exeter.

Torquay United:- Adlington; Bettany and Allen;  Cox, Smith, and Hancock; Webb, Richardson, Handley, Northcott, and Pym

Exeter City:- Tinsley; Smyth and MacDonald; Hughes, Anderson, and Sanders; Welsh, Mitchell, Pierce, Carter, and Rees.

Referee:- Mr C.A.R.Woan of London.

The City really missed their chance when they had that tremendous gale behind them in the first half. Torquay used it to their advantage to get three goals, and that is all the difference there was between the teams in a Devon Derby that was far from being a classic.

The tireless Arnold Mitchell was Exeter's outstanding forward, and though the score against them looks bad, the defence played up very well, with Anderson giving another faultless performance. A crowd of below six thousand was disappointing for this event.
