CITY HELD TO A DRAW AFTER TWO QUICK GOALS.
SATURDAY DECEMBER 22ND:
CITY 2 CHESTERFIELD 2.
After taking an early two goals lead Exeter City slackened off and had to be content in the end with a division of the points. The visitors quickly drew level, scoring two goals inside a minute, and 2-2 remained the final score, but the City after the interval missed enough chances to have won by a wide margin. The Scottish inside-right, Henderson, came into the forward line, with Mitchell dropping back to right-half and Hughes excluded.
Exeter City:- Tinsley; Smyth and MacDonald; Mitchell, Anderson, and Sanders; Welsh, Henderson, Pierce, Carter, and Rees.
Chesterfield:- Powell; Holmes and Sears; Lovie, Blakey, and Clarke; Duncan, Rackstraw, McQuarrie, Kerry, and Meredith.
Referee:- Mr N.A.Matthews of Leicester. Linesmen:- Messrs H.Stevens and C.Nicholls.
The result of this game really hinged on which of two weak defences would make the most mistakes. And in the end a draw was just about the fairest outcome.
Anderson was the only blameless man in the City's last six, though Mitchell got through a tremendous amount of work. In the attack Henderson made a good home debut, and if Pierce could have found his shooting boots Exeter would have won with ease.

City Res:- Howe; Quarrington, Johnston; Rutley, Harvey, Grace; Palmer, McMillan, Davis, Sells, and Jenkins.
One goal, scored in the second half, proved sufficient for Taunton to beat the City Reserves.
