CREWE GAME OFF SO FIRST TEAM PLAY AS RESERVES. SATURDAY FEBRUARY 16th
EXETER CITY RES 3
BRISTOL CITY RES 2.
The Exeter City fans who turned up to this afternoon's Western League game at St James's Park hoping to see the first team were not disappointed.
The Crewe v Exeter City match was among the many cancelled due to the pitch at Gresty-road not having recovered sufficiently, so the first team played as reserves. It was the first match at the Park since Boxing Day when the City lost to Stockport.
Exeter City Res:- Clark; Smyth and MacDonald; Mitchell, Harvey, and Hughes; Welsh, Anderson, Henderson, Carter, and Rees.
Bristol City Res:- Teague; Ford and Smith; Lythgoe, Pyle, and Lowe; Savino, Williams, Bush, Meyer, and Peters.
Anderson, playing in the forward line, had a share in the third minute goal scored by Henderson. A three man move ended with the centre-forward cracking in a great shot from sixteen yards which completely beat the goalkeeper. Exeter were well on top and Hughes moved up to fire in another goal winning shot, the ball passing under Teague's body as he dived. Just on half-time Rees advanced the score to 3-0 when he sent the ball crashing into the net following a corner taken by Mitchell. Welsh having been injured remained in the dressing room and Exeter played the second half a man short. Mitchell cleared off the line from Meyer, but in a determined bid to get back into the game the Bristol inside-left scored two goals within the space of three minutes. Bristol's superiority in this half was partly due to the fact that the City were not at their full strength.
- Only three out of twelve Fourth Division games were played today, and at Plainmoor Torquay beat Southport by 5 1.
