EXETER CITY SPOIL BARROW'S HOME RECORD.
SATURDAY MARCH 2ND 1963
BARROW 0 EXETER CITY 2.
Barrow today suffered their first defeat on their own ground this season when Exeter City scored twice after a goalless first half, and then stood firm against the Northerners' pressure. Exeter from the kick-off moved smartly forward but their probe on the left broke down and Eddy kicked clear.
Barrow:- Caine; Arrowsmith and Cahill;
Robinson, Eddy, Clark; Crowe, Darwin, Dixon, Howard, and Kemp.
Exeter City:- Tinsley; Smyth and MacDonald; Mitchell, Harvey, and Anderson; McMillan, Carter, Henderson, Pierce, and Jenkins.
Referee:- Mr J.Mitchell of Prescot.
When Barrow took up the running Harvey stepped in smartly to take the ball off Dixon before the centre-forward could shoot. Barrow escaped lightly when Cahill miskicked, Carter being too slow to take advantage of this unexpected opportunity. After a lot of end to end play Pierce from Henderson's pass scored Exeter's first goal with a header almost in the Ray Carter class. Then another well planned attack and another perfect centre from Henderson ended with Carter nodding the City's second goal. Exeter were now playing with the utmost confidence and Barrow found their attacks were running up against a stone wall.
