CITY MAKE IT THREE WINS IN A ROW.

SATURDAY MARCH 9TH 1963

CITY 3 HARTLEPOOLS 1.

The City continued their winning sequence today. After leading 2-1
 at the interval they added another goal in the 60th minute to put the issue beyond the reach of Hartlepools. And the City have been busy in the transfer market this week, first parting with Brian Green, who has gone to Chesterfield, and secondly signing Roy Patrick from Southampton. The new man, who is a well-known full-back, is 28 years of age, and before becoming a "Saint" assisted Derby and Nottingham Forest. He was at left-back in Exeter's team today, replacing Les MacDonald.

Exeter City:- Tinsley; Smyth and Patrick;
Mitchell, Harvey, and Anderson; McMillan, Carter, Henderson, Pierce, and Jenkins.

Hartlepools United:- Oakley; Bilcliff and Brown; Fraser, Thomson, and Johnson; McLean, Edgar, Lithgo, Younger, and Burlison.

Referee:- Mr H.G.New of Havant.
Linesmen:- Messrs P.R.Walters and S.A.Hibbs.

A burst of scoring in the first half saw three goals scored within a period of 17 minutes. Henderson with a header put the City in front, and within seconds the equaliser was scored by Edgar. Then Mitchell beat Oakley with just about the best goal seen on the Park this season. Henderson out on the left wing switched the ball across to McMillan, who sent it back all along the carpet. Running on to it Arnold Mitchell crashed it right footed into the roof of the net from at least 25 yards. McMillan also provided the centre from which Jenkins shot the third goal after the interval.

    Facing a gale-force wind the City Reserves at Bridport were quickly on the defensive but not overwhelmed.
