CITY WIN AGAIN

MANY MISSES: DARLINGTON OUTPLAYED.

SATURDAY MARCH 16TH 1963:

DARLINGTON 0
EXETER CITY 1.

Exeter City, winners of their last three matches, began in confident and determined style but missed two simple chances in the first ten minutes. Then McMillan sent over one of his inviting centres, which he is very good at doing, and Henderson with a header almost in the Ray Carter class, put Exeter on the road to victory as the ball flew into the Darlington net.

Darlington:- Ferguson; Henderson and Mulholland; Peverell, Greener, and Scott;
Maltby, Moran, Lawton, Robson, and Luke.

Exeter City:- Tinsley; Smyth and Patrick; Mitchell, Harvey, and Anderson; McMillan, Carter, Henderson, Pierce, and Jenkins.

Referee: Mr A.W.Sparling of Grimsby.

Tinsley made the best save of the match just before the interval, tipping the ball round the cost from a drive by Lawton, who had gained possession when Harvey headed away from Morgan's equally powerful shot. But the home side were generally no match at all for the City, who missed so many chances in the second half that if they had been snapped up would have put the score into double figures. Pierce did get the ball into the net but was ruled offside.
