MITCHELL IS EXETER'S STAR MAN IN CLEAR CUT AWAY WIN.

SATURDAY MARCH 30TH 1963

OXFORD CITY 0 EXETER CITY 3.

Their win, on the ground of Oxford, the newly elected League club this season following the withdrawal of Accrington, brings Exeter City's total of points to 13 out of a possible maximum of 14 since soccer resumed after the arctic winter. The City after a goalless first half won a clear-cut victory after the interval, and a score of three goals to none tells its own story. What is more the City have climbed to a safe position in the League table, and with 13 games left to play are 13th out of 24, with 31 points.

Oxford City:- Medlock; Beavon and Quartermain; R.Atkinson, Kyle, and Jacques; Willey, G.Atkinson, Houghton, Jones, and Lowe.

Exeter City:- Tinsley; Smyth and Patrick;
Mitchell, Harvey, and Anderson;
McMillan, Carter, Henderson, Pierce, and Jenkins.

Referee:- Mr P.Bye, of Bedford.

The second half of this game saw a complete change from the City's point of view. After the first period in which they could do very little right they suddenly started to play the sort of soccer they have proved themselves capable of, and then they got the goals, and the result they were seeking. Mitchell was Exeter's star man and in fact the best player of all twenty-two. He dominated the centre of the field completely, and all his defensive work, tackling, heading, and distribution of the ball were without a blemish. He also scored Exeter's first goal. Harvey with a penalty crashed home the second, and Henderson, who seems to be settling nicely into the centre-forward position, received a back-heeled pass from Carter to net the third, from 20 yards.
