Match 41
13th April 1963
Aldershot (a)

Western League
Bath City (h)

CITY HOLD ALDERSHOT AND GAIN ANOTHER AWAY POINT.

SATURDAY APRIL 13TH 1963:

ALDERSHOT 1 EXETER CITY 1.

Exeter City secured their 17th point from their last ten matches by drawing at Aldershot. It was not a brilliant game, but it was a vast relief from Exeter City's point of view that they have partially recovered from the chaos at Gillingham yesterday.

Aldershot:-
Jones; Henry and Devereux;
Stepney, Shipwright, and Smith; Burton, Kearns, Mulgrew, Woan, and Priscott.

Exeter City:-
Tinsley; Smyth and Patrick; Mitchell, Harvey, and Anderson; Welsh, Rees, Henderson, Carter, and Jenkins.

Referee:- Mr A.E.Moore of Lowestoft.

Rees and Welsh definitely livened up the forward line between them, and with just a little more precision in their passing the City would have won the game fairly comfortably. Kicking off against the sun and a very stiff breeze the City were in the early stages forced back on the defensive, and Burton scored for Aldershot after 20 minutes. In the 40th minute the City equalised, and only three men touched the ball as Carter nodded forward a long clearance from Tinsley to Rees, who took the ball on for fifteen yards before beating Jones with a stunning low drive into the corner of the net. From then on the City were well on top but failed to score again.
