Match 48
8th May 1963
Oxford United (h)

CITY SAVE POINT IN GAME OF MANY MISTAKES.

WEDNESDAY MAY 8TH 1963:

EXETER CITY 1 OXFORD 1.

The match at St James's Park between Exeter City and Oxford was small value for money. Endless mistakes were made by both sides, and as darkness fell near the end and the City club's somewhat feeble floodlights peered through it, it is more than likely that the majority of the 3,374 spectators wished that they had stopped at home instead.

Exeter City:- Tinsley; Smyth and Patrick;
Mitchell, Harvey, and Anderson; Rees, Sells, Henderson, Carter, and Jenkins.

Oxford United:- Richards; Beavons and Quartermain; R.Atkinson, Kyle, and Shuker; Knight, Cornwell, Houghton, Willey, and Harrington.

There were a few good moves, mostly from the City; a few good shots, mostly from the City; and one good goal, from the City. But Oxford were such a shambles of a side that after about 15 minutes the game went absolutely to pieces, and the City went with it. Houghton for Oxford and Henderson for Exeter were the goalscorers.
