Bournemouth & Boscombe (a)

Western League
Poole Town (h)

BOURNEMOUTH & BOSCOMBE 2
(O'Neill, Woods)
EXETER CITY 2
(Hancock, Curtis)

Wednesday August 26th at Bournemouth

15 minutes from time City were leading 2-1 and looked like holding on but as Barnett bent to pick up a harmless looking shot from Weller, the ball spun out of his hands to Woods and there was the equaliser, it was an unfortunate mistake which marred a good performance by the City keeper, including one brilliant save in the last few minutes,

It was another case of manager Jack Edwards success plan working again, Every City player again played his part with 100% concentration and effort, Bournemouth often got fouled up in Exeter's finely meshed defensive net, and one of their few really clean moves brought O'Neill's 15 yard shot and 28th minute goals, City had to wait until early in the second half for an equaliser from Hancock. There was an element of luck about Exeter's second goal when Compton deflected a cross from Rees into his own net, City never had it easy against a tough, fast moving Bournemouth team and to take lead after being a goal down seemed almost impossible, but thats just what they did and it was a magnificent effort that once again went to prove that the certainly are not out of their depth in the Third Division,
