Exeter City scored three goals in a match for the first time this season and deservedly beat Halifax TownThey sparkled in the first half with the forwards playing particularly cleverly but fell away after the interval. The defence looked a little shaky at times. A 9th minute goal from Roger Smith, who is getting married tomorrow in London, put City into an early lead after Ken Thompson chipped a ball to him. After 12 minutes Halifax equalised with a simple goal from Atkins who was only five yards out and completely unmarked, Six minutes later City were ahead again and again it was Smith who scored, taking a pass from Peter Godfrey. Thirty five minutes and another goal from CityRay Elliott centred for Dixie McNeil to crash the ball into the net, City were on top and it was easy to see why Halifax had not won away this season, but they were awarded a penalty after a handling offence against Ben Embery, Fidler converted the kickThe second half was a scrappy affair. City had lost a lot of their earlier rhythm and neither side made any headway.
