Nearly every home City performance has been the same this season, and this cup-tie against Luton Town was no different, it was a scrappy and often poor display by Exeter. When are they going to realise, that is to get goals you have to attack? In the first half City were drab and sluggish and they did not impress one little bit, no one vas prepared to shoot with the exception of George Lev Sure enough Luton went ahead in the 24th minute, through Whittaker, Even this did not improve City's game. There was no understanding between defence and attack and Luton were allowed to settle on their one goal leadCity were struggling against Luton side who themselves were not good enough to teach Exeter a lesson, It was not until Ray Keeley scored the equaliser in the 55th minute, that City realised they could win if they attacked more. Although they pressed hard for 20 minutes, they left it too late, falling away again towards the end of the game, Keith Harvey returning to the first team after a long absence started nervously, but improved as the game wore on, ken Thompson was not a success at inside left, he must be restored to his proper position. The attendance of 4,704 was the smallest ever at St James' Park for an FA Cup tie proper. There have been smaller crowds in the qualifying rounds played by City.
Comment
Exeter City will have to go to Luton next Thursday, kick off half-past seven, to replay their first round F.A. Cup-tie. This afternoon they were held to a 1-1 draw by a young Luton Town side at St James's Park in a game that never reached great heights. Exeter were very disappointing in the first half and allowed Luton to score a 24th minute goal. Once again the forward line was slow and lacked power. In the second half the City produced more fire, Exeter City will have to go to Luton next Thursday, kick off half-past seven, to replay their first round F.A. Cup-tie. But altogether it I was not a very brilliant Exeter performance against a Luton side with a poor "away" record. Keith Harvey, who is now the trainer as well as a player, worked very hard and played better as the game went on.

In the return Western League match at Dorchester the City Reserves crashed badly and were beaten 7-1 after being 4-0 down at half time.
Cribb put them into the lead in the 6th minute from close range. The same player then hit the bar before Dockerty headed a second after 15 minutes, Worse was to follow for City, Whalley (20th minute), and Forrest (40th) put the Dorset team well on top. Pounder, Cribb, and Shepherd scored in the second half while Elliott replied for Exeter,

TEMPORARY TRANSFERS ARE NOT THE ANSWER.
The Football League Management Committee have suggested the introduction of temporary transfer schemes, whereby top clubs are asked to loan players to the poor and needy of the Football League, Exeter City's manager Jock Basford is not in favour of the proposals, He says the idea is a bit of a dream and there could be many snagsHe added that it might suit individual cases but he did not think there would be much benefit to come out of the proposals,
