It had to happen sooner or later, City have not won an away game. Trainer Keith Harvey was named as substitute, so manager Jock Basford acted as trainer for the night and he was a happy man at the end of the game, They never allowed Chester to take advantge. City's football was better controlled, especially when playing out from defence and the passing crisper and more accurate,

Ray Keeley's goal in the 16th minute really spurred the City on. A fine goal from 20 yards after he had started the initial move himself, For the remainder of the first half City were on top and they scored again after 33 minutes, Dixie McNeil's header was handled by Singleton and Jimmy Blain scored from the penalty spotEexter continued to outplay Chester and forced them into mistakes, Chester had more of the play in the second half but they did not create chances against a solid City defence, As the game went on, Chester became more desparate. But it did not make any difference for City were playing with confidenceRay Harford and Ernie Wikinson were outstanding, playing the ball out well and supporting the forwards,

SALISBURY CITY 1:

Scorers:
Exeter Wingate 2,
Salisbury: Ambrose,

Although City did not get the winning goal until the last minute this was one of the reserves better displays, and they earned the points, It was a refreshing change from the usual drab football of negative unskilful soccer that we have seen in Western League fixtures this season, For once the Exeter forwards were not shot shy and although most of their efforts were off target or saved, at least they were having a go.

City Reserves
Jones; Embury, Nash; Clarke, Balson, Buckingham; Stuckey, West, Wingate, Elliott, and Smith.
