Match 13
October 3rd 1964,
Colchester United (home)

Western League
Andover (away)

EXETER CITY 2  (Welsh, Rees)

COLCHESTER UNITED 0

Saturday October 3rd at St James's Park.

Exeter City:- Shearing; Smyth, Patrick; Hancock, Mitchell, Anderson; Welsh, Banks, Curtis, Grace, Rees.

Colchester United:- Buck; Griffiths, Fowler; Trevis, Forbes, Docherty; Grice, Stark, Connolly, Hill, Aitchison.

Referee:- Mr A.E.Setchell of Luton. Linesmen: Messrs D.H.Counsell and R.C.Stretch.

This was the City's second home win in the League this season, and one they badly needed.

The reorganised defence did well, but the biggest improvement was in the way that the City moved forward and created scoring chances for themselves. Eric Welsh was full of life on the right wing, while Hancock and Curtis played their part in supplying him with the right sort of passes. Welsh scored the City's first goal in the first minute of the game with a fine cross-shot, and Rees got the second in the fifteenth minute of the second half with a similar shot.

ANDOVER 5

Andover scored a resounding victory over Exeter City Reserves by five goals to one, and Arbury was carried off with a serious leg injury five minutes before the end.
