Exeter City's 2-1 victory over Oldham was sweet revenge in points and performance of the bitter memories of Boundary Park ten days ago. It was not a brilliant performance, or even the best that the City can turn on, but it was an improvement again on the team's form of last Saturday, when they beat Colchester. For Oldham were a side. that took a lot more beating. Exeter ripped into them right from the start, and when Welsh beat Swan with a great shot in the eleventh minute it looked to be the beginning of really big things to come. But while the movements were there the goal-touch was not. This was not entirely the fault of the City forwards. Passes were being pushed through and across the Oldham defence, and at last Banks was buzzing around with something like the speed and determination he showed last season.

In front of goal though things just did not run Exeter's way. It seemed that Swan was either positioned in the right place to stop the ball or the bounce was a fraction wrong. The second half was played in torrential rain, and in conditions such as they were all the players can take credit for producing a bright and entertaining game.
