Match 19
October 24th 1964,
Scunthorpe (away)

Western League,
Portland (away)

SCUNTHORPE UNITED 0
EXETER CITY 0

Saturday October 24th at Scunthorpe.

Scunthorpe United:- Reeves; Hemstead, Needham; Lindsey, Neale, Horstead; Hutton, Bramley, Lawther, Scott, Wilson.

Exeter City:- Shearing; Smyth, Patrick; Mitchell, Harvey, Anderson; Rees, Rutley, Curtis, Hancock, Ley.

Referee:- Mr C.M.Cooke of Blackburn.

On their first-ever visit to Scunthorpe Old Show Ground, the City, hit by injuries, had to turn out a team consisting of three forwards and eight defenders. The City have never had so many close scrapes as in this game. But at the same time they must have full marks for their tenacious and skilful covering under such pressure. The entire defence played well, and considering that this was a "scratch" attack it gave a satisfactory performance. The experience of Curtis showed up right away, but at times he was too clever for, and two moves ahead of, his colleagues. Rutley once again proved his stability in Third Division football.
