Match 41
March 13th 1965,
Walsall (a)
Western League,
Bristol City Res (h)
WALSALL 2 (Clarke 2 1 penalty).
EXETER CITY (Hancock)
Saturday March 13th 1965 at Walsall.
Walsall:- Carling; Gregg, Harris; Sissons, Bennett, Atthey; Satchwell, Clarke, O'Neill, McMorran, Taylor.
Exeter City: Shearing; Smyth, Patrick; Mitchell, Harvey, Anderson; Welsh, Rees, W. Carter, Hancock, Ley.
Referee:- Mr R.Windle of Chesterfield.
Exeter City's latest permutation of forwards failed to produce a winning line at Walsall. On the run of play, and on footballing skill, they could have won, but Walsall managed to net twice to the City's once.
This was Exeter City's third defeat in a row and the second game in which a disputed goal cost them a point. The dispute in this case was over the penalty, given against Harvey for hands when it seemed more likely that he had dived to head out a centre from Taylor. It is difficult to say whether or not the changes in attack by the City made any difference as there were so few clear-cut chances.
