Western League,
Barnstaple (h)

Workington 0
Exeter City 1 (Curtis)
Friday March 26th 1965
.

After their one - nil win on the Workington ground the City appear to be clear of any relegation worries. For unless any of the four bottom teams perform a near miracle Exeter need only another point or two to be certain of staying up.

Workington:- Lindsay; Ogilvie, Chapman; Hale, Burkinshaw, Lumsden; Lowes, Oliver, Hopper, Napier, Martin.

Exeter City:- Shearing; Smyth, Patrick; Anderson, Harvey, Fulton; Welsh, Rees, Curtis, Rutley, Ley.

In trying to stay in the Third Division the City have used everyone of their senior professionals, and only apprentices Peter Arbury, a full-back, and Peter Davies, a goalkeeper, and new professional this week, Bruce Stuckey, have not played in the first team.

at St James's Park.

City Reserves:- Barnett; Pope, Arbury; Grace, Higgins, Hancock; Stuckey, Rice, W. Carter, Scanlon, N.Carter.

All eyes were on 16 year-old Chumleigh boy Selwyn Rice, when he made his home debut for Exeter City Reserves v Barnstaple. Missing from the Barnstaple team was Barry Pulman, formerly of the City. Barnstaple's outside left had an easy chance in the first minute but shot wide with only Barnett to beat. At the other end Nick Carter had a pile-driver smothered by Barry, the visiting side's goalkeeper. Rice, who was playing a clever game in midfield, could have scored, but delayed his shot too long, enabling Barum to cover.
