Match 47
April 7th 1965
Reading (away)

READING 2
(Walker penalty, Allen)
EXETER CITY 2 (Rees, Harvey)

7th April 1965.

From the viewpoint of an Exeter City supporter things went pretty well at Reading on Wednesday. Twice the City pulled back after being behind and they finished up with a useful point that moved them up a couple of places in the Third Division.

From the City viewpoint things went pretty well, Twice they pulled a goal back from behind and they finished up with a point that will be useful moving them up a couple of places in the table. Yet from any other angle it was a poor game with little constructive or accuarte football. It was a real hit and miss match with City centre half Keith Harvey having a real mixture of a game, First of all Harvey handled Terry's header in the 23rd minute and Walker scored from the spot, Then with a minute to half time and City 2-1 down, he scored the best goal of the game with a flying header from a Graham Rees cross. Lastly in the 81st minute he missed a penalty after Dermot Curtis had been brought down, Wilkie saving his penalty kick, Rees scored City's first equaliser in the 36th minute, but just seven minutes later Reading were back in front through Allen, Exeter missed a few second half chances, but Reading defended well after unmarked blasted broke down. There was a certain amount of luck on Exeter's side when Allen completely wide of an empty net from just four
