Biographical Text

A much travelled player who commenced his career as a junior player with Sheffield Wednesday, earning his first full contract in November 1976.

He went on to feature in 47 league matches for the Owls, scoring five goals.

During his time at Hillsborough, Owen also played on loan with Rotherham United (March 1980), Doncaster Rovers (November 1982) and Chesterfield (March 1983).

Leaving Sheffield Wednesday, Owen signed for Cardiff City in August 1983, where he scored 14 goals in 39 league outings.

He returned to Yorkshire by signing for his home town club Barnsley in August 1984 for a fee of £30,000 where he netted 25 league goals in 68 outings.

Moving on to Bristol City in August 1986, Owen played 53 league matches and scored 11 goals. He also had a loan spell with Hull City in December 1987.

Owen was then transferred to Mansfield Town for £35,000 in January 1988 where he scored four times in 29 league matches.

Owen signed for Blackpool in the summer of 1989 for £30,000. Another loan spell with Carlisle United took place in October 1990, before he signed for Exeter City, also on loan in December 1990.

He was to play four matches for the Grecians, the first of which was in a 3-1 defeat at Bury. After returning to Blackpool, Owen eventually left the Bloomfield Road club to join Frickley Athletic in the summer of 1991.

After retiring from playing he was last heard of working as contractor to Yorkshire Water.
