Today, before a crowd of just over seven thousand, the Railwaymen gave an early indication that they intended improving on that record, and they did. Swindon Town's two first half goals were the result of good approach work and defensive slip-ups, and as the game progressed they played with increasing confidence with the City struggling in a vain effort to get a goal. ( Swindon won by this handsome score because their play was far more perceptive than Exeter's. They were also faster and more aggressive, swinging the ball from wing to wing and making full use of the width of the pitch.
