Bad Day For Exeter City, Begins in the 13th Minute and Goes On.

Saturday January 21st 1978.
Gigg Lane, Bury, attendance 3,730.

BURY 5 EXETER CITY 0

In the thirteenth minute Bury forced their second corner of the game and from it they scored their first goal. On a cold, grey, and wet afternoon Exeter City, playing in blue so as to avoid a clash of colours with Bury, who wear white, held out until the interval, although frequently under pressure. But they were hit by a quick three-goal blitz early in the second half to cancel any hope they may have had of saving the game. Bury got the ball into the City's net again, but with the linesman
signalling for offside this was not allowed. Giles had his name taken by the referee for fouling, and 18 minutes from the end Bury got their fifth goal, the ball going through Key's
legs from Rowland's shot. This served to inflict on the City their worst defeat of the season
and to complete an altogether black day for the Devon club.

Bury:- Forrest; Keenan and Kennedy;
Hatton, Tucker, and Bailey; Stanton, Suddick, Rowland, Robins, and McIlwraith.

Exeter City:- Key; Templeman and Hatch;
Hore, Giles, and Saxton; Randell, Kellow, Bowker, Roberts, and Holman.
