Shrewsbury Grab A Point With Three Minutes Left to Play

Saturday January 28th 1978.

St James's Park, attendance 3,906.

EXETER CITY 1 SHREWSBURY TOWN 1.

In a deluge of rain and wind Exeter City threw away another point on their own ground this afternoon when, in front of the lowest crowd of the season Shrewsbury grabbed an equalising goal and a point, just three minutes from the end of this Third Division match. It was a hard battle in the stamina-sapping conditions, but the City looked to have the game won when Kellow put them ahead seven minutes before the half-time interval. However, Shrewsbury struck back for that late equaliser, and Exeter, who seem unable to win at home, had dropped yet another point on the St James's Park ground. In addition to losing another home point Exeter also suffered the loss of their player-manager, Saxton, who limped off with a leg injury in the 70th minute, Ingham coming on to sub for him.
