Holman Fires One Home To Warm Up the City

Saturday February 11th 1978.

St James's Park, attendance 4,017.

EXETER CITY 1 PETERBOROUGH UNITED 0

The widespread wintry weather decimated sport today, frost and snow cancelling all three racing programmes and causing 37 postponements in the English and Scottish Leagues.

The national Rugby Union and Rugby League programmes were also very severely hit, including Exeter's match with Weston-super-Mare on the County Ground, their "A" team game at Cullompton, and the Tiverton v Exmouth match.

Soccer appeared to get off more lightly, however. Exeter City Council park department said that all the council pitches were fit for play, although subject to inspection by referees. At St James's Park parts of the pitch were covered with sand, due to another heavy overnight frost, but it looked in good condition when the teams appeared.

Following a free kick taken by Randell in the 58th minute, Holman drove the ball left-footed into the Peterborough net to give Exeter their first win of the year at St James's Park this afternoon.

Exeter City:- Baugh; Templeman and Hore; Weeks, Giles, and Roberts; Hodge, Kellow, Holman, Bowker, and Randell.

Peterborough:- Barron; Hughes and Lee; Ross, Turner, and Carmichael; Slough, Butlin, Doyle, McEwan, and Anderson.
