Exeter Get A Game At Last And End Up All Square at Portsmouth
Tuesday February 28th 1978.
Fratton Park, Portsmouth.
PORTSMOUTH 1 EXETER CITY 1.
Exeter City have not played, owing to the wintry weather, since they beat Peterborough at St James's Park on February llth. The game at Portsmouth on the 18th was called off, as was the one last Saturday when Chesterfield were due to visit St James's Park. But the return to Football League action at Fratton Park on Tuesday evening under the floodlights was not an auspicious occasion, for the teams contrived to produce a very poor first 45 minutes, at the end of which there was nothing on the scoreboard, and two scrappy goals after the interval. Both the goals were scored (one accidentally) by the same man, Paul Cahill, the Pompey centre half. Five minutes after the interval he headed a corner kick from Randell past his own goalkeeper, but redeemed himself twenty minutes later by getting the equaliser for his own team.
