City slip up Again Drifting Towards The Foot Of The League

Monday April 3rd 1978.
Brunton Park, Carlisle, attendance 3,693.

CARLISLE UNITED 2 EXETER CITY 0

Exeter City's defeat at Carlisle on Monday has increased the pressure on the St James's Park club to stay in the Third Division, and it is now most important that they strike good form at home. With ground advantage in four of their remaining six matches the City must get the right results in front of their own supporters. The City's long week-end in the North of England has been far from a happy one. Following Saturday's reversal at Chester they faced the backlash on Monday of three successive defeats for Carlisle and they came off second best. The City fought hard throughout, but let themselves down when it came to finishing off their moves, especially in the early stages when the home defence was looking decidedly unsteady. David Kemp, for whom Carlisle paid a fee of £75,000 to Portsmouth a month ago, scored the first goal with a well directed header, and Bonnyman also with a header registered the second.
