City Still Dropping Points At Home And Hatch Joins the Injured List

Tuesday April 18th 1978.

St James's Park, attendance 3,200.

EXETER CITY 0 CHESTERFIELD 0

Fifteen minutes from the end of this match Hatch went down with an injury to his knee, and with Saxton, Roberts, and Ford already out of action for the same reason the City are now left with only Jim Giles as a recognised centre half. After their draw with Chesterfield the City need one more point from their remaining three matches to make absolutely certain of Third Division safety, but the probability is that they are already clear
and out of any trouble. At the same time concern must be felt over the regularity with which the team is still dropping points at home, and this was another poor and disappointing performance. The City never stamped any authority on the match, some of their passing was terrible, their game, lacking fluency and flowing football, was disjointed, and altogether it was a singularly dull and dismal display.
