City Find Their Goal Touch In Last Home Match of the Season
Wednesday April 26th 1978.
St James's Park, attendance 3,000.
EXETER CITY 4 TRANMERE ROVERS 2.
A four goal salute at St James's Park was Exeter City's farewell to their supporters in their last home game of the season, and in this all-action, incident-packed, and entertaining match the Exeter team was frequently seen at its very best.
Dick Forbes, who recently signed professional forms for the City, was given his debut in the Exeter midfield, and he created a favourable impression. His distribution of the ball was almost faultless, he was full of endeavour and energy, his positional play was good, and he had a hand in two of the City's goals. And Forbes, who is 23 years of age and captain of the reserve team, looks to be a star of the future in the ranks of Exeter City players.
This game must rank as one of the best of the season at St James's Park, and people will still be talking about it during the summer months. Exeter's goals were scored by Bowker (2), Delve (1), and Hatch (1), and Tranmere's by Allen (1) and Cliff (1).
Exeter City: Key; Templeman and Hore; Delve, Giles, and Bowker; Forbes, Kellow, Randell, Ingham, and Hatch.
Tranmere Rovers: Johnson; Mathias and Flood; Parry, Philpotts, and Evans; Craven, Cliff, Moore, Tynan, and Allen.
