Biographical Text

Rekeem Harper, a midfielder, joined Exeter City on a season-long loan in August 2022 from Ipswich Town.  Having previously played for West Bromwich Albion, he joined Burton Albion shortly after his time at St James' Park was over.

Rekeem was in the West Bromwich Albion academy from age twelve and became a scholar/trainee in 2016. He made his first-team debut aged seventeen in the Premier League against AFC Bournemouth in August 2017 and signed a two-year professional contract a fortnight later. He was soon to go on loan to Blackburn Rovers for whom he made nine league appearances.

Making seventeen Championship appearances (including a play-off game) in 2018/19 - and scoring his first goal for Albion against Rotherham in April 2019 - his performances earned him the club's Young Player of the Year award ahead of a new three-year deal in the summer. After playing ten league games in Albion’s 2019/20 promotion season, he appeared twice in the Premier League before joining Birmingham City on loan for the remainder of 2020/21.

Leaving Albion in June 2021 after making thirty league appearances in all - and often playing in cup games together with representing England at under-17 and under-19 level - Rekeem joined Ipswich Town for an 'undisclosed fee' reported to be an initial £500,000. Starting just six league games (with another seven as substitute) for his new club, he moved on loan to Crewe Alexandra in January 2022 for the rest of the season and - by summer 2022 - had made over a hundred appearances for his various clubs in all competitions.

After an early-season appearance for Ipswich in the League Cup, Rekeem began a loan spell at Exeter towards the end of August 2022 and soon made his debut as a substitute against Accrington Stanley on 27 August 2022. Subsequently making his first league start at Shrewsbury on 13 September 2022, he scored his only goal for the club on 10 April 2023 at Peterborough which also proved to be his final game for City. Returning to Ipswich at the end of the season, he had appeared in slightly fewer than half of the games played during his stay at St James' Park.

Rekeem's Ipswich Town contract was cancelled by mutual consent towards the end of June 2023 leaving him free to sign for Burton Albion on the same day as Kegs Chauke who he had played alongside at Exeter. Also arriving in Staffordshire with former Grecians Jamal Blackman and Jake Caprice, Rekeem made 14 league starts (with another 13 from the bench) during his first term with the Brewers before leaving the club by 'mutual consent' at the end of August 2024. Without a club for several months, he agreed a deal with Port Vale at the start of November 2024 for the remainder of the season.
