Exeter City v Lincoln City

December 30th 1978

Exeter City 3 Lincoln City 2 at St James's Park.

Exeter City have every reason to feel pleased over their two Christmas holiday wins over Walsall and Lincoln City. Exeter's cause satisfaction is not so much because the team played well (in fact they had to struggle to win both games) but because of the grand performances of the two recent signings, John Sims and Ian Pearson. Both these men are skilful players and they have already formed a formidable partnership which has yielded the City six goals in the for you last two games after going through the previous seven League and Cup matches with only two goals to show for their endeavours. Sims scored his second goal in successive games and Pearson weighed in with two to give the City a last minute victory over Lincoln. It appeared as though the "Imps" might get away with a draw with the score at 2-2 and time running out, but then Pearson got his second goal and the City's third, and within seconds of the restart Mr Reed brought the game an end.
