Exeter's promotion hopes dipped again at St James's Park, when they were beaten 2-1 by Swindon, whose goals were obtained in a four minutes spell in the first half. Sims scored Exeter's goal in the second half, and this was the signal for more pressure, but Swindon packed their goal and held out till the end.
