Rotherham United (Away)
And in the Western League
City Reserves v Welton Rovers
Rotherham v Exeter City
May 5th Exeter City's last lingering hopes of promotion disappeared at the Millmoor Stadium when they were beaten by Rotherham United. There was a sparse crowd of below three thousand round the railings and in the grandstand to witness a moderate display by both teams in what was a typical end-of-season game. Exeter were a goal down after 22 minutes and two down after 48. They pushed forward in the second half in search of a goal, but achieved nothing until four minutes from the end when the ball travelled from Randell to Neville and then to Bowker, who put it in the net with a shot from five yards.

Bell opened the scoring for Exeter, from Ingham's pass, three minutes after the start, and Ingham might have scored himself in the next Exeter attack, but sliced his shot wide of the post.
