Match 53
May 7th 1979
Hull City (Away)
Hull City v Exeter City
May 7th 1979
Hull City 1 Exeter City O at Booth ferry Park.
This match was almost ruined as a spectacle by repeated stoppages for free kicks for fouls and minor offences. Several players were injured, including Rogers, Exeter's best forward, who was the victim of a clumsy and dangerous tackle by Dobson, and Bannister of Hull, who went sprawling after Hore had bundled into him. Edwards six minutes from time beat Main with a powerful shot into the top corner of the net, and this put an end to Exeter's hopes of getting their first point in a match on the Hull ground.
City team:- Main; Templeman, Giles, Mitchell, and Hore; Delve, Randell, and Hatch; Neville, Sims, and Rogers.
