ROVERS FOIL DOUBLE BID BY CITY
Doncaster Rovers fought back from being two goals down twice to share the points in a 3-3 draw with Exeter City last night at Belle Vue.
Exeter must have thought two points and a double over Doncaster safely in the bag at half Lime. There they were two goals up and facing a Doncaster side whose goalkeeper had been taken to hospital with concussion. There had not been much between the sides until the 23rd minute when goalkeeper, Graham Brown, was injured in a goalmouth collision. Play was held up for five minutes while he received attention. But he was eventually led off and defender, Stan Brookes went between the posts. A few minutes later Brown came back, but he was evidently still groggy and when he was beaten twice in three minutes, just before half time, he left the field. The goals came when Bobby Hodge slipped the ball under Brown after 40 minutes to be followed by the former Doncaster player, Brian Joy, laying on a picture goal for Alan Beer. Doncaster protected Brookes well and hit back with a goal by Terry Curran after 72 minutes. But Exeter restored their two goal advantage within 45 seconds, Lammie Robertson supplying the finishing touch. Doncaster looked destined for their first home defeat since before Christmas, but they showed the determination which has lifted them up the table since Stan Anderson took over as manager. following the sacking of the former Exeter player, Maurice Setters, by scoring twice in the last eight minutes. Les Chappell scored the first goal and then Peter Kilchen beat three men on a long run for goal before pushing the ball under Bond who dived too late.
