Trouble torn Exeter City's week of hectic and historic events ended with a Division Four defeat at bottom of the table Doncaster Rovers, City should have been ahead at half time and in the end literally paid the penalty for missing out on earlier chances as Doncaster scored from the penalty spot. There was little to choose between the teams for most of the match, both looked poor outfits.

Neither team managed a serious shot at goal in the opening 20 minutes until Doncaster winger Higgins forced City, keeper Bob Wilson to save his swerving shot, Exeter dominated midfield in the first half, but opportunities were limited because of the home defenders no nonsense play, being quite content to boot the ball out of play at the first sign of danger. City faded after the interval allowing Doncaster to fight their way into the game, The pressure paid off when Campbell Crawford was forced to finger tip the ball over the bar in the 74th minute to stop shot from Ternant, Irvine beat Wilson sending his the wrong way from the penalty spot to complete a dismal few weeks.
