It would not be objective to report that the most exciting incident in this patch was when Brian Joy (photo) and George Hamstead, the Bury left winger, were involved in a clash more worthy of all in wrestling. There was precious little else that could be called entertainment for the crowd, Exeter had to face a stiff breeze in the first half so it was no surprise when they fought a rearguard action. The City were clearly in with a chance in the secondhalf, or so it seemed, But although Exeter did more attacking they were still subject to a distinct Bury territorial advantage, Bury continued to find the City defence resourceful and they could find little scope to tunr their pressure into scoring chances. It was in the last half an hour that Exeter came more prominently into the game with Fred Binney giving the Bury defence some trouble, The losers of the game were undoubtedly the spectators. The bulk of the blame must rest with Exeter, for this was a public example of the modern game of football. The home side trying to move forward and the visitors funnelling back to defend, Binney missed two good chances for City, whilst Spence saw his shot blocked on the Exeter goalline, but not much else happened.
