Ladies see off Robins at St. Martin's
EXETER CITY LADIES got their first home points of the season with a 3-1 win over Cheltenham Town.
City entered the game following back-to-back defeats against Larkhall, and needed a win against the Robins to get their season back on track.
Vic Barter was the beneficiary of the first major chance of the game, as after a long ball from goalkeeper Carley Barber, the ball bounced over the last Cheltenham defende, but Barter was unable to make the most of the one-on-one opportunity.
City dominated for the next ten minutes with both Chloe Williams and Paige Longworth-Wakeham having chances. They would finally score from the spot, after Vic Barter was taken down in the area. Kirsty Caunter converted.
It wasn’t long after that emergency sub Helen Kukor had to be used, with winger Chloe Williams hurting her foot on twenty-five minutes.
It didn’t take Cheltenham long to equalise after the break. Carley Barber was sold short by a defensive error, allowing an easy finish.
But City regained the lead quickly through Kukor, as after a long ball over the top was mis-kicked, she slotted the ball past the on-coming keeper to make the score 2-1.
The game was wrapped up with a wonder strike by Corinne Potts after eighty minutes; good work down the left by Marika Ghiglia made space for Kukor to lay the ball into the path of Potts, who lobbed the keeper.
