Match 06
5th October 2016
Plymouth Argyle (home)

Exeter Ladies 0-6 Plymouth Argyle Ladies

ARGYLE Ladies were in devastating form to defeat Devon rivals Exeter City and move top of the Premier League South West Division One. The result represents a sixth straight victory for the Pilgrims and an impressive double-header over the Grecians, having won the home fixture 4-1 just a fortnight earlier.

Argyle came storming out of the blocks and effectively ended the game as a contest with four unanswered goals in the opening 28 minutes, starting with in-form striker Natasha Knapman finishing off a good move involving Darcey Hepworth and Dani Barr. Knapman tapped-in a simple second moments later and it was 3-0 when Mollie Taylor pounced on a sliced clearance before Ezme Wells cut inside to rifle home a well-taken fourth. The hosts were now reeling and Argyle displayed their ruthless side with Knapman completing her hat-trick and captain Katie Middleton completed the scoring on the stroke of half-time.

The second-half was a virtual non-event, as Argyle strolled to a satisfying three points. “We were electric in the first half,” said manager Dave Leonard. “Unfortunately, we dropped our tempo in the second-half, so we have to do better. It’s still a learning curve but the main thing is we are now top of the league.” Argyle return to cup action on Sunday, travelling to Ilminster Town before we welcome Luton Town in the Premier League Plate competition the following weekend.
