Southampton Saints (away)
MANAGERS REACTION ON NARROW DEFEAT TO SOUTHAMPTON
Southampton 2-0 Exeter City
To come away from a side that continues to be unbeaten since September feeling disappointed that we could have grabbed at least a point is progress for us. We knew of Southamptons strengths in the midfield area and aimed to crowd and overload these areas of the pitch to limit space and force mistakes. Southampton had very little time on the ball and we captalised well on their forced errors. Our midfield looked sharp, intelligent and full of energy, our pressing was aggressive and purposeful and our options further up the pitch kept busy and looked to get runners in behind. My players worked tirelessy throughout the game with all units cohesive for 90 minutes. I'm extremely proud of all my players who recognise that with continued hard work and application of our principles will see them progress both as individuals and as a team. We may not have gained a statistical reward from this game but we have gained a benchmark for our future performances at a time when we have 15 games left of our league season, which is very inspiring.
