Swindon Town Women let half time lead slip at home to Exeter in Division One South West.

Jamie Lloyd-Davies’ girls were boosted ahead of kick-off when STFC Community’s Foundation Park was made available for the fixture owing to the fact the game couldn’t be played at Fairford.

Women eventually lost 3-1, and consequently remain 10th in the 11-team division with three points secured from nine fixtures.

After a break from games over Christmas, and despite Exeter’s long trip, both sides looked eager to be out on the pitch as the game kicked off with the two teams exchanging attacks. An early Exeter break saw Town goalkeeper Dani Hull quickly off her line to snuff out the threat.

Swindon then stepped up a level, with Ruby Scahill particularly influential in controlling the midfield area and helping to create a number of chances.

Towards the end of the first half, Exeter increased their threat. But just before half time, it was Town who took the lead.

Moving the ball upfield quickly, debutant Lauren Kayll took possession to the touchline, drawing the Exeter defence out wide.

She squared the ball across to Berry, who was left with plenty of time and space to calmly put the ball into the back of the net, giving Swindon a deserved 1-0 lead at half time.

The second half saw Exeter push hard for an equaliser, and they soon got it.

Attacking down the left, Town defenders kept tight to their forwards – but after playing an unusual one-two with the corner flag the Exeter winger delivered a ball to the back post.

Despite the best efforts of the home defence, the Devon side drew level.

As the half progressed with Exeter putting more pressure on the Town goal, manager Jamie-Lloyd Davis made a tactical change - striker Ellie Olds came on for right-back Sarah Doidge.

But as Town pushed, Exeter picked up the ball and broke down their left. A firm shot was kept out by Hull, but Exeter were quickest to the loose ball to to take the lead in the 76th minute.

Town pushed hard for the equaliser, but left space for Exeter to hit on the counter. As the game drew to a close, City won a corner, from which the cross fell kindly the away side, to seal the three points.
