MATCH REPORT

CARDIFF 2 EXETER 3
(LEAGUE)

Well, taking our life in our hands off we travelled to Cardiff, luckily we did'nt worry too much about the game, I think we were more worried about whether or not we would manage to get over the bridge without mishap. We did and this match was something more like our old selves, the performance was full of good moves, and thoughtful football. The game went from end to end, as most of our games with Cardiff do. From the start we took pressure and gave it out well, with a really determined effort from Mandy L. taking the Cardiff defence by surprise she surged forward with the ball and after getting to the by-line, slipped the ball across to Annie who made no mistake by finishing the move off.

At half time we were well pleased with our performance, but knew that Cardiff would certainly be out quickly to  even the score in the second half. With both teams playing at a frantic pace the game remained end to end. Julie T, was put through, but was brought down. Mandy L, came up to take the free-kick and had no trouble in placing a high dipping shot into the net. Again Julie T, was put through from just over half way with the ball and did well to get past the defence and around the goalie and to get Exeter's third and winner.  However as always Cardiff kept plugging away and pulled a goal back quickly. Towards the end of the game tragedy struck and Jackie took a bad blow which left her being carried off. The pressure was then poured on, and a defensive error gave Cardiff a chance to get back in the game with a penalty.

The final score being a good result for us, and the comment was, if only we could have put that sort of football together the week before. Still that's football and another two points, but best of all a good all round team performance. Well Done.

Individual Match Award - PENNY WILSON

I am sure Cardiff hospital had no idea what was going to hit them when we arrived with three bad injuries obtained during our game against Cardiff, we assended on them and they made us welcome, (they were looking for someyhing to do.)

With Mandy Langman suffering from a chipped bone in her foot, Jackie a dislodged knee and strapped from head to toe, and Mandy Bowen  broken veins in her hand, it was to say the least an experience. I now know what it must be like to be ambulance driver, we did in fact think of of sitting Brenda on the top of the mini bus with her flashing red and blue nose (from a collision) but she travelled home in a car, coward. But we seriously hope that all three recover fully, hopefully Mandy will be back against Frome but we fear that Mandy L, and Jackie will be out for a little while yet, but the team wish them a speedy and full recoveries.

It is nice to see Shelley back with the squad, and playing a good game in her debut.
