MATCH REPORT
EXETER 6-5 NEWPORT
17th Match 1985.
LEAGUE
This match was an important game to us, we wanted to make up for our heavy loss at Newport. We anticipated a hard physical game and were right. The first fifteen minutes saw end to end football with good attacking moves from both sides.
Newport's pressure paid off first and they snatched a goal, it was'nt long before they broke away again and found the net with a good shot. Two nil down we had a lot to do however we kept our heads and started to put our game together with a quick break Annie found the back of the goal. Newport then gave a fast reply and again moved two goals ahead of us. Just before half time we managed to force our opposition into making a mistake which resulted in an own goal, the half time whistle went with us 3-2 down.
Newport started the second half strongly and it didn't take them long to find another chink in our defence. It began to seem like tennis with the game going to and fro, and again we pulled a goal back thanks to Annie.
Again Newport quickly replied and we were 5-3 down with fifteen minutes to go, We then put together some of our best football for along time, we showed good charactor and our game became very strong and snatched a goal from Bridget. Annie then completed her hat-trick and into injury time Ju. T, slotted away a well deserved winner for us. A very pleasing result.
