LATEST THIRD DIVISION EXPLOITS OF EXETER CITY

PROMOTION HOPEFULS KNOCKED Exeter City 2 Bolton Wanderers I

In one of the best matches of the season at St. James Park, City overcame strong opponents who did not quite get into top gear for much of this match. Much of the credit for this was due to the quality of the home team Kevin Miller made a great early save from Tony Philiskirk and at the other end Gardan Hobson was robbed when David Reeves kicked off the line.

Scott Hiley had a 25 yarder saved by David Felgate after 26 minutes and Bolton went close when Reeves heated against the post. However, Exeter maintained the pressure for longest and went ahead through Gary Marshall just before the break. Paul Barry sent over a good cross and Marshall's wall struck volley bounced over Felgate into the corner.

After the break Steve Neville hit the inside of the past and then had a penalty refused before Darran Rowbotham powered a headed second goal from Marshall's free kick in the 65th minute Bolton narrowed the gap with 5 minutes remaining when Hobson last possession and Reeves eventually nected a somewhat fortuitous goal. That set up a storming final quarter of an hour.
