Match 47
1st April 1991
Rotherham United (away)
THE LATE, LATE SHOW
Rotherham United 2
Exeter City 4
Referee Ken Redfers allowed EIGHT minutes of stoppage time and during this period THREE goals were scored. The finak scoreline was one that no one could have predicted in the first half. No goals came in the opening 45 minutes but Murray Jones preferred to Steve Neville, headed a Darren Boughey cross against the post Richard Dryden also went close, as did Gary Marshall, but that was about it
After the break United went ahead with a first goal from lan Hathaway on 48 minutes. Shaun Taylor saved another shorty afterwards when he made a timely interception but City then equalised with a clever Murray Jones header Taylor put City ahead with a header from Mark Cooper free kick with just 4 minutes remaining and that seemed to be that. The referee had other ideas. In injury time Steve Neville, on as a substitute, scored folowing a good pass from Scott Hiley, John Pearson, on loan from Leeds, promptly reduced the arrears. Amazingly it was not yet over, with the radio about to give the chassified results, Gordon Hobson netted following a neat pass from Boughey.
Four wins on the trot for City and dreams of what might have been if some early narrow reversals had been draws or even wins.
